Great Price Samsung UN55C6300 for $2,247.00

Samsung UN55C6300 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV (Black) Review

In considering what TV to buy my parents, I had the apparent choice between buying an led LCD or a plasma. I opted to get the led, but you wouldn't really be wrong to go the other route. My parents just wanted any TV that was bigger than 50 inches while I, being somewhat of a techy, needed to find the best TV over 50 inches. Well, here you have what I would call the third best TV over 50 inches (the 8500 and 8000 models being better) at the time of this review. This is the first of Samsung's new line of lcds to come out this year, and it narrowly beats out last years 6 and 7 series TVs by offering a better contrast ratio (4,000,000-1 vs. 3,000,000-1) for virtually the same price point. Otherwise, it's pretty much identical after reviewing the specs. Newer is better though in this case also because of the firmware upgrades and other fine improvements in engineering and technology.

The TV was delivered about 5 days after I purchased it through Amazon, and it took about 15 minutes to set up. Out of the box the thing looks incredible. It's as thin as a blackberry! Some assembly was required with a phillips head and about 10 screws to attach the tv to the stand, but it was only 4 steps total and added to the suspense. After plugging in literally two cords (the hd component cables and the power cord) you are up and running. When the picture came on it was CRYSTAL clear. It puts every other TV I've seen to shame. You can go to Best Buy and do a side by side comparison and you won't find anything better. Forget about the plasma, this is the way to go. I could describe in more detail how great the picture is, but suffice to say it's flawless from movies to news to sports. Even if this is not your first HDTV, you will notice a big difference. I bought a 32" 240 mhz set in Decemeber and this tv is in another league. The LED side panel illumination works well, and there is very little adjustment of the settings necessary to achieve true to life picture quality.

"True to life" will be understood in a new way when you buy this TV. The longer it has been since your last TV purchase, the more breathtaking this advancement in technology will be. Regardless, this will be a TV that will have a useful life for years (longer than a plasma) and will always look amazing. That being said, I would get the warranty (2 years) for an extra 170 or so.

Note: I chose lcd over plasma because lcds are noiseless and don't have the risk of picture burn-in. The 58' plasma I was looking at is the same price. This TV is better than plasmas priced less at the time of the review. If price is the main concern, I might do an in store side by side comparison with cheaper plasmas to see if the difference to you is worth the money.

Wow! - Island girl - Seattle, wa
We have had this tv for 2 months and it just doesn't seem like it could possibly be any better. The colors are so true and there is so much depth that it actually seems 3D at times. When you play a Blu Ray the colors pop even more and you really feel like you are part of the picture or scene. I have done a double take at times because it appears so life like! We love this tv and are so happy when we get a chance to relax and watch it (not often enough!). Wall hook up was a breeze and it has enough HDMI inputs to make it even easier. I wouldn't recommend the Samsung Blu Ray player though if you are running everything thru a receiver. Samsung's "Any net" gets confused about what you are trying to do. Or at least the Universal remote doesn't recognize that the tv is in control of the Blu Ray player. (Or maybe it's me who gets confused on what it is trying to do!) Anyway, I can't imagine any other tv delivering a better picture than this one. You will enjoy it immensely!

Check Out Panasonic CT-27HL14 27" TAU Series HDTV-Ready TV

Panasonic CT-27HL14 27" TAU Series HDTV-Ready TV Review

Of ALL of the TVs I have purchased, Panasonic has always come through time and again with high quality electronics. I still have a 19" "Pana-Black" TV I purchased in 1999(ten yrs ago!) that still works as it did the day I got it. I was just Googling this particular model (ct-27hl14j) looking to re-purchase yet another remote control that has been lost or broken, after many years of use & abuse by people that didn't have to pay for it. I purchased this 27" in 2004, from a Curcuit City that I got a markdown price of 0 because it had a large gouge on the front of the plastic button access door. In the last six years it has been dropped multiple times between moves during travels with my job, a large dent in the side, and door on the front has been ripped off due to missuse by people other than myself. I have still not experienced any problems with this model it's picture quality is still just as good as the day I bought it, although the 19" I bought a full decade ago is only now starting to dim and darken. For it's picture quality an reliability alone I highly recommend any Panasonic, but only if you want to get a great deal for your money, and your dollar to go far beyond expectations.

Another unsatisfied owner - Elementary Teacher - Virginia
We bought this TV a few years ago, and we were very happy with it. However, one morning it just stopped working. We don't watch a lot of TV so it has not had a lot of wear and tear. It should have lasted longer than it did.

Not worth the money - Alan Stokes -
I purchased this television in early 2005 and the picture went out a couple of months ago (May 07). I paid around 0 for it at Circuit City and from reading the reviews, I don't guess it will do any good to contact Panasonic and will not be worth the money to pay for it to be repaired. I have a Panasonic 40" LCD Projection TV that has been working fine for 4 years but I will not purchase another Panasonic television ever again. Do not waste your money!!!!!

Nice HD set - Frank J. Monahan - Houston, Texas
For the price, I am much impressed with the picture on the Panasonic, the HD pics are very sharp and clear. At the time I bought it (2004) there were no other HDTVs close to the price. Still today it has provided me with trouble-free operations. I highly recommend it for a smaller HD set

Check Out Sharp Aquos LC37D62U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Sharp Aquos LC37D62U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Got this TV at an Atlanta area MART that sells many BRANDS (hint, hint), and got it at an excellent price (after salesperson cuts and rebates, got it for just over 0). Its a different model number (store-specific), but the same exact TV.

Here are lists for the pros and cons:

PROS
- Excellent picture, and easy to plug-n-play
- The TV menu/options has a TON of pick-and-choose settings, which leads to an endless amount of tweaking to get the best possible picture.
- The set looks nice mounted on the wall.
- The sound for TV/Cable is excellent.
- The HD picture for the cable is crisp and clear!
- Energy save features are great (auto-shut off, signal detection, automatic brightness adjuster, etc).

CONS
- Main Con: The picture from playing Blu-Ray movies (connected with a proper 1080p HDMI cable from a PS3) is not as crisp as some other TVs I have seen. I've been told that this is most likely due to the size of the TV, as larger TVs would be able to deliver 'crisper' detail (as the 1080 horizontal lines wouldn't be as compacted).
Was told by a certain store's 'Dork Group' that at 37', 1080p is only JUST more noticeable that 720p would be. They said in order for 1080p to be fully observed, a screen size of 42' and greater is best.
- The sound of both blu-ray and regular DVDs leaves something to be desired. I don't have a home theater set-up, and the speakers on the TV don't seem to handle the dolby digital sound as well as they should (can watch TV with volume in the teens...need to hike it up to the upper 30's to mid 40's for DVD/blu-ray playback). I think its just an issue with the TV's ability to compress the higher audio input.
- All inputs are in back of the TV (not side-mounted). Thus, if your TV is mounted to the wall, once its there, changing out cords and plugs is a challenge w/o removing the TV from the wall.
- On-TV buttons (power, volume, etc) are on top of the TV. Again an issue if the TV is mounted on the wall.
- On occasion, it takes the TV up to 10 seconds to read a new signal. For instance, playing a Blu-Ray disc, the rating screen is typically in 720p resolution. The TV will show 'lag' in decoding the 720p signal vs. the 1080p of the rest of the disc.

Sharp made a nice HDTV here, but the designing of the TV is quite flawed and poorly executed. Plus, the information about the 1080p resolution on this size TV is a little off-putting. I recommend saving a few hundred bucks and going with the 720p model for the 37' inch set. Also, be sure to consider needing additional speakers in order to fully enjoy DVD/blu-ray sound.

Amazing picture; short lifespan - Gerald Stanley -
I bought this TV a year ago. I was very happy with the purchase. I bought a Peerless wall mount bracket to go with the TV. It looks great on the wall, and the picture is simply amazing: deep blacks, nice smooth gradients, sharp crisp images, and really good contrast and color.

The sound was a little disappointing at first, but once you adjust the sound settings manually it's pretty good. For movies I would recommend running the sound through a home theater system.

One month after the warranty expired the TV stopped working. We were watching TV last night, heard a couple of clicks from the power relay and the TV went dead, except for a blinking green power light on the front of the unit.

I called Sharp (on a Sunday) and someone answered right away after navigating the phone menu for a short time. The green blinking power light apparently means that the unit is not getting sufficient power to operate, according to the Sharp representative. All other devices plugged into the same surge-protector are working fine, so it's not a problem with the outlet. The Sharp representative couldn't comment on what was wrong, but I believe that the power supply circuit failed. He provided me with the number for an authorized Sharp repair shop near me.

A quick search shows that the Aquos line has problems with the power supply units failing and it's a known issue with Sharp according to some online posts [...]. Another quick search shows that replacement power supplies are available on eBay between and 0. Instead of spending 0+ on getting this TV repaired, I'm going to spend to get the part shipped to me and make the repair myself. If it fails I'll replace the Aquos with a Sony Bravia.

I'm quite disappointed that the TV didn't last longer, especially since we've all enjoyed it so much in the past year. It's a great TV marred by (presumably) quality or design issues.

My recommendation: buy the extended warranty (on any TV you pick).

Sharp has Quality and Customer ServiceProblems - kirkbrews - Nampa, Idaho USA
I bought a new Sharp LC-37D62U on-line. It was pretty, the right size for my space, the specs were great and customer reviews were favorable. My experience to this point has been less than favorable.
The picture quality is pretty good, good viewing angle, very dark blacks and good contrast. Unfortunately, the audio will not lock onto two local digital sub-channels, it cuts in and out. I've tried a different antenna, with no change. Two other digital tuners in the house work fine on all channels. Sharp customer service tried to diagnose the problem by phone and finally decided to dispatch a local repair center. The local repair center says the problem is with the Sharp firmware and cannot be resolved until Sharp updates the firmware. Sharp denies a firmware issue and blames the local broadcaster. I asked why my other tuners worked, they said their tuner doesn't work like other peoples'. They are half right.
So, here I sit with a new Sharp TV that for whatever reason will not work with two of the local stations. I guess my options are to move to another city and hope those broadcasters work on Sharp TVs, watch the other channels or buy another new TV. If I get another TV, I don't think I'll consider Sharp as an option!

very "Sharp" 1080p - Keith L. Snyder - new york
This is an awesome LCD. Sharp, in my opinion, has it all including a great price. The contrast ratio is very important to have the best images, colors and true black/whites. The Aquos has one of the highest
available for the price. Great for gaming & action scenes as well. The vendor shipped the product out quickly...ordered tuesday night and arrived thursday by 3:00pm...very nice.

Great Price ViewSonic VT2430 for $258.99

ViewSonic VT2430 24-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

We've been watching this (actually 23.5 inch diagonal) Viewsonic HDMI TV in our kitchen for several months now. I haven't yet gotten another HD Verizon decoder for this TV, but even in standard definition this is a great TV. This is stupid on my part, because I spent a lot of time looking for a 1080p HDTV in this size. I have only tried out the 1080i HD in another room (where we have the 1080i Verizon DVR) shortly after it arrived (before I installed it in the kitchen). I use it with some external (computer) speakers with a subwoofer so I cannot accurately comment about its sound quality. I have it on a wall mount above the refrigerator. The one thing about this mounting position is I have to be careful when putting things on top of the refrigerator (below the TV). This is because the control buttons are on the bottom of the unit... a good thing for reaching them when it's up high, but easy to bump and accidentally change something. Fortunately, the remote control is easy to use to correct (reset) the settings. The TV menu structure seems intuitive and easy to use. It has several different inputs (see the product tech details) in addition to an HDMI input for the HD signal. All in all, I'd buy another one of these if or when I am in the market for another TV this size, such as for a bedroom or as a computer monitor.

Colors and resolution when is used as monitor is not ok - Dany De Cecchis - San Diego, CA. USA
In general the TV is really good, I used with a PS3 and as monitor with my laptop. When I use it as a monitor, through a HDMI monster cable, the color is pale and the desktop passes a little bit the edges of the tv. So, sharpness when is used as monitor is poor.

Great TV for a bedroom - K.J.K. - GA, US
Good picture quality, easy to set up. Only had it a short while, but I'm impressed how nice it is for how little it cost. The only gripe I have is that it only has one HDMI connection.

Two Tv's, both defective - Kelly Jordan -
Received the TV very quickly, and worked fine when first out of the box and hooked up through component cables and a DVD player. After being turned off the first time, however, whenever I tried to start it up, it would go to the ViewSonic logo, sit there for a few seconds, then restart itself! No button input (from remote or the bottom panel) would work.
I called ViewSonic, and the phone tech had me try the "hard reset". Did not work. The said it was something defective in the hardware, and to return it.
I requested a replacement through Amazon, and, again, received the replacement very quickly. The same exact thing happened with this one! It would work the first time, then go into a loop any time after that! I even hooked this TV up in a different room, thinking it could be some sort of power surge.
I am guessing that ViewSonic put out a bad batch. No replacement this time, just a refund.
